Vintage Maternity Photo Shoot | Hampton Roads Portrait Photography featuring Dominique & Kilan

This awesome couple wanted a 1950's vintage maternity photo shoot inspired by Mad Men taken in Virginia Beach, VA. Styled by Dominique Panganiban.

Their FIRST baby! I would have been so utterly jealous if I wasn’t able to shoot their maternity photos.

It was their idea to shoot a vintage inspired maternity photo shoot. The theme is based on Mad Men, which I’d never seen until recently. I started watching episodes this summer to prepare for the shoot and I’m now totally hooked! Anyway, what I noticed from my research is that women in the 1950’s didn’t show off their bumps at all! We had to update this concept to show off Dominique’s beautiful round belly!

Dominique did her own hair and make-up for the shoot. She searched high and low for a dress that was small enough to flatter her still tiny frame, but would go over that “due any day now” belly. Kilan brought the Draper attitude all the way. Don’t worry, that’s not really bourbon in that glass! So many men aren’t in to the portrait sessions and I was pleasantly surprised by how far he committed to the persona.

I really loved bringing a vintage 1950’s vibe to the maternity session. It was a challenge, but it was fun. I hope to do more themed shoots in the future.

[…] and down-for-anything-stylist flat out refused!!! LOL! But that’s ok. She let me take her maternity pics the first time she was pregnant. Finally, I was able to convince her to hop in one shot to help me […]
